NDI Source

Receive NDI video and audio in OBS Studio. NDI Source works like a traditional OBS source - add it to a scene, pick an available NDI sender and use the feed in a stream, recording or live event.

NDI Output

DistroAV is the current name of the project formerly known as OBS-NDI. It was renamed from OBS-NDI to DistroAV in June 2024, following a request from the OBS Project to remove “OBS” from the plugin name. The purpose has not changed - it still provides NDI integration for OBS Studio. What is the difference between NDI Source, NDI Output and NDI Filter?

NDI Source receives video and audio from an NDI sender and adds it to OBS like a normal source. NDI Output transmits the complete OBS program output to the network. NDI Filter (also called NDI Dedicated Output) transmits an individual source or scene independently from the main program.

Which operating systems does OBS-NDI support?

OBS-NDI is available for supported 64-bit versions of Windows, macOS and Linux. Installation options include downloadable releases, WinGet for Windows, Homebrew for macOS, Flatpak for Linux and Ubuntu packages.

What version of OBS Studio is required for the NDI plugin?

Can OBS-NDI receive video and audio from another computer?

Yes. An NDI Source can receive video and audio from another computer running an NDI-compatible application. Both systems must be on a network configuration that allows NDI discovery and communication; production setups should generally use a reliable wired connection.

Can OBS-NDI send the full OBS program to another device?

Yes. NDI Output transmits the main OBS program view, including video and audio, to compatible applications, computers, monitors, recorders and production systems on the network - useful for monitoring, secondary recording, remote production and signal distribution.

Can OBS-NDI output a single source or scene?

Yes. The NDI Filter can be applied to an individual source or scene to create a dedicated NDI output. This lets you send a clean camera feed, media source, graphics source or separate scene without sending the complete program. Audio through the NDI Filter is supported for video capture sources, media sources and VLC sources.

Does the NDI plugin replace capture cards or video cables?

It does not replace every physical connection, but it can reduce the need for fixed point-to-point signal paths in suitable environments. NDI shares compatible video and audio over an IP network; the best configuration depends on latency, image quality, network capacity, reliability and your equipment.

Why are NDI sources not appearing in OBS Studio?

Missing sources can be caused by an incorrect NDI Runtime version, network discovery restrictions, firewall rules, incompatible network settings, Flatpak permissions, an outdated OBS install, or conflicts with an older OBS-NDI plugin. Is OBS-NDI free and open source?

Yes. OBS-NDI / DistroAV is a free and open-source project. Its source code, release history, issue tracker, development documentation and contribution process are publicly available through the official GitHub repository.

Is the OBS-NDI download here the official plugin?

Yes. The download buttons on this site point to the official DistroAV releases on GitHub. Nothing is repackaged, wrapped in a custom installer or modified. This is an independent fan site that simply makes the genuine plugin easy to find and install.
